Common questions

Questions people ask before booking

Straight answers to what comes up most often before a business advisory engagement.

Are you a licensed business broker?
Yes — I'm a licensed business broker in South Australia and Western Australia, with Victoria licensing in progress. 4+ years' experience in business sale advisory and appraisal work.
What's the difference between a Business Value Review and a Private Sale Review?
A Business Value Review establishes what your business is actually worth — a standalone appraisal you can use for planning, finance, or your own decision-making, whether or not you're selling. A Private Sale Review goes further: it's for when you're actively preparing to sell privately, covering appraisal plus the advisory work around structuring and running that sale process, backed by hands-on business sales experience.
Do you list and advertise my business for sale like a traditional broker?
My core focus is advisory — appraisal, positioning, structuring, and guiding you through the sale — rather than running a public listing and advertising service. That said, every situation's different, so if getting your business in front of buyers is part of what you need, that's a conversation worth having.
How is your fee structured compared to commission-based brokers?
Fee-for-service, not commission — you pay a fixed price for the review or advisory work itself, regardless of outcome. Traditional brokers typically charge sign-on fees, business profile fees, and marketing costs running into the thousands upfront, then take a success fee on top when the business sells — commonly around 7%, with a minimum fee often around $15,000+GST. My fee is the one cost, paid once, and it's not tied to whether or how fast a deal happens.
How long does the process typically take?
It varies — a Value Review is a defined, standalone piece of work, while a Private Sale process depends on the business, the market, and how ready things are to go. I'll always give you an honest read on timing for your specific situation once we've talked, rather than a generic estimate that doesn't hold up.
